If you wish to play chess online, you can play on Lichess (recomended by me) or Chess.com (most popular). If you want to learn chess online (doing tactics for instance), and you are not really strong yet, i strongly recomend using the free stuff on Lichess over paying for some membership on Chess.com. For playing they're equally good though.
